The Little Bookshop Of Lonely Hearts – Review

What are Sundays better for than to surrender to the couch with a romance novel and a cup of tea? Here is my review of The Little Bookshop of Lonely Hearts which I finished two weeks ago. Happy Sunday!

Once upon a time in a crumbling bookshop, Posy Morland hid in the pages of romantic novels.

So when Bookend’s eccentric owner, Lavinia, dies and leaves the shop to Posy, she must put down her books and join the real world. Because Posy hasn’t just inherited an ailing business, but also the attentions of Lavinia’s grandson, Sebastian, AKA The Rudest Man In London™.

Posy has six months to transform Bookends into the shop of her dreams but as Posy and her friends fight to save the bookshop, she’s drawn into a battle of wills with Sebastian, about whom she’s started to have some rather feverish fantasies…

A cute little romantic story. I liked it and I also enjoyed reading it.
I will “only” give this book three stars because to me it was not an epic love story. It was not original enough.

I don’t know specifically what makes me say (write) that, but one of the things that I didn’t love or particularly like was Posy. She was sweet and nice nothing bad to say about her. But sometimes I believe she annoyed me anyway. I don’t know whether it was her work attitude or her immaturity or the fact that she was still so affected by her parents death, (the last thing may seem a bit harsh, but it didn’t feel real or realistic to me. I just got a bit annoyed and thought ‘pull yourself together, you need to move on’.) that didn’t make me love her.

But one thing I liked about this books was the “fights” between Posy and Sebastian. I found some of them quite hilarious especially at the very beginning of the book where they are discussing Posy’s pyjamas. I laughed out loud I’ll admit.
Another thing I also really liked was that the book was almost entirely set in the bookshop. I really liked that – it was different. As a bookworm, you can only love to spend so much time in a bookshop.

I do not think I will reread this book and I do not think I will read the sequel either, but I will never say never.

Overall I believe it was a sweet, funny and romantic book that deserves three big stars.

    1. The Little Bookshop Of Lonely Hearts was indeed a great book. How posy Morland struggles to save her book shop and handles her fascination towards Sebastian in order to save her book shop was really amusing! Well Written! Thank you 😊
