Bookish Discoveries I Made This Year

I love when I discover new things whether, it is coffeeshops, music or new places. In this post I will talk about seven new bookish discoveries I made this year. I hope you may discover something new as well. 🖤

Bookstagram

Okay okay, before you think I have lived under a rock I will tell you that I know what bookstagram is. But it wasn’t before this year that I created my own bookstagram. I used to browse books and bullet journals on my private account but decided this year to create an account solely for books. So, as for 2019 Bookish Stuff have an instagram and I can call myself an bookstagrammer. Check out my profile here!

Press tickets at Bogforum

This year I discorded that you can get a press ticket at Bogforum. (Bogfoum is Denmarks biggest book convention.) This isn’t the biggest discovery but the discovery lies in the fact that you can get a press ticket as a bookblogger! Which means you can get in for free :))) If you want to know more about Bogforum read about my visit here.

Kal’s spreadsheets

If you haven’t discovered Kal’s @ Reader Voracious spreadsheets yet you have to check them out. Like now! These are such a great way to track your reading stats, blog sats and arc status (if you have any)! I discovered these myself last year and they are not something I want to be without. I use them most for my reading but they will fit many of your needs. Check them out here! A big thank you for these Kal! 🖤

Audiobooks

2019 was the year I finally discovered all the benefits audiobooks bring. I will always have a little lump of shame in my stomach when I choose to listen to a book instead of reading the physical copy. But the benefits are simply too big to ignore. I have almost perfected the art of walking while reading but I just walk faster if i can keep my eyes on the road and let my ears do the work. You can even do laundry or cook dinner while listening to a book. It is amazing and can be a life saver when you are hopelessly behind on your syllabus 😉

Kiersten White

I am not a reader who specifically goes after a certain author but this might change. This year I read ‘And I Darken’ by Kiersten White and what a experience that was! I had expected a mediocre YA book but what I got was a lyrical fantasy with the importance of history and characters in mind. ‘And I Darken’ was probably my favourite read in 2019. Kiersten’s writing was truly something special and I will defiantly read more from her.

‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar

I read this book in primary school many years ago but couldn’t remember the title nor the author. I wanted to read this again but couldn’t find it. I was in a book store last year, just randomly browsing the shelves and found a bright yellow book I wanted to check out. I read the synopsis on the back of the book and realised it was the book I had read back in primary school🤗 I felt so lucky even though it was a complete coincidence. I bought the book right away of course 😉

Libby

Last but not least I discovered Libby in 2019. This was probably my best discovery. Libby is a free app where you can borrow ebooks and audiobooks for free! Did I mention it was for free? 😉 All you need is a public library card. In 2019 I read 2 ebooks and listened to 3 audiobooks. The range of books varies from library to library I think but they have A LOT of books. And you can always make suggestions for new ones. For me as an international book blogger and reader it is a great way to get my hands on english books! 🖤

That was all from me this time.

Best,
Nicoline 🖤

What bookish or non bookish discoveries did you make in 2019? Something I have missed or should not live without?

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Each week there is a new topic for bloggers to choose and list their top ten. This week’s theme is ‘Bookish discoveries I made in 2019’.

  1. Don’t feel so bad. I just started my Bookstagram account this year. So you’re still ahead of me. xD I’m just out here blissfully living under a rock, unawares lol. So much yes to Kal’s spreadsheets, too! They’ve been such a godsend this year already as far as helping me organize and see my stats. I love it. Libby is also fabulous! I don’t know what I would do without it at this point, because I borrow so many e-books from it each year.

    Here’s my TTT post.

  2. I discovered Libby in 2019; I mean, I knew people within the communtity talked about it, aswell as Overdrive (ithink it is?) and it’s pretty neat!

Good job for joining Bookstagram!! I still haven’t made the jump – though my pictures are getting better and better in the term where it goes more like what I want and I get less frustrated – so maybe soon!
I also have yet to try audiobooks, but it’s on my list for this year aswell!

Oh my god, Press tickets as book bloggers sounds fantastic!! I wish we’d have convention like this near me.. there must have some in countries over (like Quebec, Ottawa or Alberta maybe?) but erm.. it’s still far 😅

    1. Yeah I think it is the same as overdrive. Not really sure why there is two things 🤔
Thanks! You should just take the jump. I am sure you won’t regret it.
Yes it’s amazing. I also have thought of travelling but it will be a bit expensive. So i am just gonna appreciate that I have a book convention I can go to. ☺️

    1. Your welcome! 🖤
Yeah it takes some work. But I don’t want it to stress me too much. So I just accept that other people will always have more beautiful feeds than me ☺️

  3. All the complete love and ‘yaaas’ to Kal’s amazing spreadsheets!!! She is queen of Spreadsheets lol and I too had only recently discovered bookstagram!

  4. I LOVE Libby! I first heard about it through BookTube in 2019 too and it’s definitely gotten me into listening to more audiobooks because it’s so free and has easy access. No subscriptions to worry about, yay! 😀
Also I totally forgot I joined Instagram this year too. XD I’m really bad at keeping up with it, but I like scrolling and looking at everyone else’s Bookstagram posts! 😛

    1. Yes exactly! I’m all in for the no subscriptions ☺️ Haha it happens I forget mine too. I also enjoy just looking at other’s post! People are insanely creative 😍

  5. Excuse me but I am SOBBING! Thanks so much for including my reading spreadsheet template on this list, I am so incredibly honored.

I also kind of fell in love with audiobooks in 2019, and I own so many of Kiersten White’s books but have only read one of them, oops.

    1. It’s all on you! We should be on our knees hahah. I must say I really love the changes you have added to the 2020 version!🖤

Yay for that! Haha well that happens. I have the complete Beautiful Creatures box but have hardly looked at them🙈
