Top Ten Tuesday – The longest books I have ever read

I have always had the fear of not being able to finish a book. Every time I pick up a book there is always this (now miniature) part of my brain that fears I won’t be able to finish it. I think this fear goes back to when I was a kid. When I was a kid I didn’t like reading at all. I hated it! (I feel so bad for my teachers and my parents haha)
However, when you are young and in school, you need to practice reading. When I was “forced” to read books in school I often didn’t finish the books I started. It was a constant battle. Luckily when I got older my attitude towards reading and books changed (thank god for that!). I began reading for pleasure and for fun. And I started finishing the books as well. I also started reading longer books let’s say 500+ pages. This was a huge victory for me personally – reading books to an end and additionally reading books with 500+ pages.
However, I was still afraid of not being able to finish books because I believed it would suggest that my joy and love for reading was fading. Now I know that dnf-ing a book is not a bad thing and I know that my love for reading will never fade. Nevertheless, a long book can still be a bit frightening (I mean some books are just huge!) but I have still managed to read some in my bookworming-years. This rather long detour leads me to this week’s topic for Top Ten Tuesday: The longest books I have ever read.

Note! – listed from shortest to longest to create some kind of excitement haha. (Probably won’t do the trick.)

My thoughts on the list
My favourite Harry Potter book is actually Harry Potter And The Order Of Phoenix even though it is the longest…I think it is noticeable that four out of my 10 books are Harry Potter books. Have I read nothing but Harry Potter?! Nah, some of them are just very long. I hope it won’t keep readers from reading them though.
I also think it is a bit ridiculous that Fifty shades made my list haha. A bit embarrassing too!
The toughest of these books to get through was Breaking Dawn, God that book was long… The easiest to get through was ACOMAF which I loved and read in just three days which is kind of a record for me!

What are the longest books you have ever read? Do we have some of the same?

  1. Harry Potter is also on my list! (And would have taken up half of it, if I hadn’t limited it to one book per series, haha.) I really enjoyed reading about your journey to loving books! 🙂

    Lovely post <3

    1. Yeah it is also a while ago since I read them! But I remember that Breaking Dawn was a long book because it was my “personal record” when I finished it 🙂

  2. Ohh yes I relate a lot to your fear of huge books! I’m mostly terrified of them 😂I always worry about being stuck reading a super long book that’s dragging. Like not bad enough to DNF, but not doing anything for me either?! But I have read the Harry Potters!! I ended up listening to the last ones via audio and that was amazing.😂I think the longest books I’ve ever read have got to be The Game Of Thrones ones.

  3. HP definitely make up some of my list but I think the Stormlight Archive books by Brandon Sanderson are my longest. They are each over 1000 pages (or at least 2 of them are…I think the first might just be in the 900s)
