September Round-Up

Hello folks!

It is October which means it is time for a round-up of September. In the middle of September I “returned” from a not so planned hiatus but now I am back and I am so glad that I am. Due to that, I haven’t posted that much on my blog this month, but I have read a lot of books! 😀 Since I didn’t do a round-up for August I will also list the books I read in August in this post. Here goes!

Books I have read in August

A Court Of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas ★★★★

Another great book from Maas. I didn’t love this book as much as the second book but it was still thrilling and action-packed. Read my review of the entire ACOTAR series here.

A Court Of Frost And Starlight by Sarah J. Maas ★★★

I enjoyed reading this novel but it wasn’t as great as the recent books. Read my review of the entire ACOTAR series here.

Camille Clouds Brevkasse by Line Knutzon ★★

A Danish book, written by the Danish author Line Knutzon. This book consists only of letters sent to Camille Clouds’s letterbox and her responses to these letters. Some of the letters and the responses are quite absurd! I believe they are meant to provoke and raise a critique of our society. It was funny to read and a very different reading experience. However, I think it got too consistent and I got a bit bored.

Opkald Fra En Engel by Guillaume Musso ★★★★

This translation of L’appel de l’ange by Musso was a most thrilling read. This is my second crime/thriller book this year and I was very pleased with it. It was not a typical crime/thriller book, I believe, but that is what made it so great. I really liked the mix of genres and the plot. I will most definitely recommend this book.

Dance Of Thieves by Mary E. Pearson ★★★★

This was my first book by Pearson and I really enjoyed it! However, it took me some time to adjust to the characters and the world. (Maybe because it is set in the same world as The Remnant Chronicles and I only read them after Dance of Thieves.) However, when I got further into the book I really loved it. I am really excited about the next book in this series.

The Kiss Of Deception by Mary E. Pearson ★★(★)

The first book in this series was a bit of a disappointment for me. I think I expected more.    Maybe my expectations were just too high after reading Dance Of Thieves. There didn’t happen that much and I think the romance part was a bit weak. Anyway, I liked it (and Dance Of Thieves) enough to give the second book a chance.

Books I have read in September

The Heart of Betrayal by Mary E. Pearson ★★★

I found The Heart Of Betrayal a way stronger book than Kiss of Deception. I liked the plotting and scheming and the Komisar was a great villain. As well I got to know the characters way better and the Kingdom of Venda. I was eager to read the third book immediately but I had to wait two weeks for my bookstore to receive it…

Asking For It by Louise O’Neill ★★★★

I consumed book this as an audiobook. This was an entertaining and thought-provoking book on today’s society and rape culture. What happened in this book was so awful. I got really mad but also really sad. The ending was so depressing. But I understand in some way why O’Neill wrote that ending. That is how it ends in most cases. So terribly wrong though… I think I am going to check out some of O’Neill’s other books.

The Wicked Deep by Shea Earnshaw ★★★

I had wanted to read this book in a while and finally bought the book and read it this month. The plot and the atmosphere that the book created was very captivating however towards the ending I got a little disappointed. Read my review of this book here.

The Beauty of Darkness by Mary E. Pearson ★★★★

The last and third book of the remnant chronicles. I really enjoyed this one. Everything was just a little more exciting. And the break-ups/fights between Lia and Rafe were so well and genuinely written they killed me.

The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West ★★★★

I loooved this book! Why didn’t I read it before? I loved everything about it! I think it is my favourite YA romance novel. Maybe I should give it five stars? But then again it is a YA romance and I don’t like to do that. Anyway, I will definitely check West’s other books out.

My blog has turned 6 months!! That is half a year which is crazy! Time flies when you’re having fun. As if that wasn’t a celebration enough in itself, my blog has also reached 100 followers!! Yayyy! Actually, my current tally is 107! Thank you so much, you guys for following me on this book blogging journey. It has been fun, challenging, scary and a bit stressful sometimes. But I feel I have learned so much! Not just about myself and my relationship to books but also about blogging, the book blogging community and the publishing industry as well. Lots of love to you! Here is a ghost hug <3

Last Tuesday you could read my list of 10 books by my favourite authors that I still haven’t read. Check out my Top Ten Tuesday list here!

In September I finally got my brain together and wrote a post on the ACOTAR series that I was obsessed with this summer! Read my thoughts on the four books in the series here.

Around the blogosphere

After reading Dance of Thieves I stumbled upon a post by Kysta @ Pages Unbound discussing the lack of morally questioning in Dance Of Thieves. I really liked Dance of Thieves and felt reading this post was a kind of a slap in the face. I hadn’t thought about how immoral a lot of the actions of the main characters were. A great post that made me think and reminded me to be a bit more critical when I am reading 😉 (still loving the book though 😉 )

Clo @ Bookdragons talks about her first impressions of the book bloggin community. Some really interesting thoughts and very relatable.

What’s up for October?

Reading wise I am gonna start on Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones today. I have two books on hold I hope to read this month as well, which are The Nowhere Girls by Amy Reed and North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell.

    1. Your welcome! ❤️ I have been meaning to read the Nowhere Girls since you recommended it to me (I don’t know if you remember that 😂) and after I read your review/discussion post about it. So I was thrilled when I discovered that my library had it😍

  1. I’ve had Dance of Thieves on my TBR for a while now, but haven’t gotten around to it. That there’s a post about the (im)morality of its character’s choices is very interesting, I’ll be on the lookout when I read it, to see what I think about it – I love morally gray characters, and villains, and antiheroes, and heroes who mess up, but the writing needs to make sense, decisions need to have weight, know what I mean?

I hope you like North and South, I love that book (and the tv adaptation was pretty great. Richar Armitage killed it)

    1. Yes, I do. and I think that might be the problem. Pearson doesn’t seem to take into account that her heroes are making a lot of immoral decisions. Anyway please let me know what you think when you have read the book and the post 😉

I am so happy to hear that! I can’t wait to see the tv adaption! I love when adaptations are successful :))

  2. I like a court of wings and ruins but haven’t start reading the next one. Happy 8th anniversary on your blog.
