October Round-Up

The calendar no longer says October but November which means it is time to take a look at what October has brought of bookish stuff. Wiee!

This hasn’t been the greatest reading month for me if you only look at the number of books. BUT I will still call it a great reading month because this month I finally took my time to read a classic!! The classic I read was North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. I always wanna read classics but I am so bad at actually doing it. But not this month. It may have taken quite some time to read North and South (16 days) but I still read it. And in my defence, English is not my native language and the language and sentence structure in old classics can sometimes be a bit tricky 😉 Anyhow I am still very pleased that I read this book and not only because it is classic but because I also really enjoyed this story. But more on that later. (Actually just down below.)

Books read this month

North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell ★★★★

As I said I finally read a classic. And I am so happy about it because I really enjoyed reading this book! I feard I would find the story boring and low paced but I actually think quite a lot happened. I was really found of Margeret Hale the main character. She was such a nice character with nice qualities. Even though this book is shelved as a romance I was taken a bit aback how sad and though it also was. But I think it contributed well to make the story more lifelike. I really hope to post my review of this book in November so sta tuned 😉

Currently reading

I am currently reading Wintersong by s. Jae-Jones. I must admit I am not very pleased with it so far… The language is exquisite(!), but the story just doesn’t work for me at the moment. I miss better connections and explanations and some things just seem silly and without meaning. I am about half way through so I think I will finish it nevertheless.

Books reviewed this month

The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West ★★★★

I read this YA romance novel in September. I read it all in one day – I just couldn’t get enough of this story. Read my review here!

Asking For It by Louise O’Neill ★★★★

I also reviewed Asking For It by Louise O’Neill in October. This book just keeps growing on me. Read my review of this great, awful but important book here.

Other things on Bookish Stuff

Well, maybe the biggest thing that happened here on Bookish Stuff in October was that I moved to a self-hosted site. I was a bit annoyed by the limits of the free WordPress and decided to take the jump. So far I am really pleased with the decision. The move was a bit nerve-racking but I think everything went well. I still have to correct all my in post URL’s which is a bit of a shitty job. But a girl’s gotta do, what a girl’s gotta do.

On Bookish Stuff in October you could read about My bad reading habits. This was a fun tag that made me think of all the reading habits I have gotten me over the years.

This month I also took part in two Top Ten Tuesdays. Read my top ten lists of The Longest books I have ever read and The greatest villains. Harry Potter is inevitable on both lists 😉

This month I also took part in the Danish book convention Bogforum 2018. Bogforum is a yearly book convention held in Copenhagen, Denmark. This is an event I always look much forward to. An entire conference centre will be filled with books for three days! Here you can visit publishers meet authors and listen to debators discuss books. I have written a post about my trip to Bogforum 2018 where I met Louise O’Neill! The post will be up at the begining of November.

Books bought

This month I got seven new books, one of them I got for free the other was a gift from my sister. The books are as followed:

Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill
All.The.Feels by Carlsen Puls (this is a free sample book of 13 YA novels)
Verden Af I Går by Stefan Zweig (aka Die Welt Von Gestern)
Den Der Lever Stille by Leonora Christina Skov (Danish book, translated to the one who lives quite)
Flytte Hjemmefra Kogebog by Louisa Loran (Danish cookbook, translated to move from home cookbook.)
The Last Time I’ll Write About You by Dawn Lanuza
The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler

Around the blogosphere

Nikoline @ Windblown Pages recommends three literary podcasts. Check them out. My favourite is the Banging Book Club.

Clo @ Bookdragons comes with her alternaive ending of ACOWAR. I enjoyed reading this proposal for an alternative ending!

What’s up for November?

I really hope to read the Nowhere girls though I am still on my library’s waiting list… I also hope to read some poetry by Dawn Lanuza or maybe Only Ever Yours by Louise O’Neill.

How have your October been? What have you been reading? What will you be reading in November?

    1. Thank you! Yes, it was! I was terrified when I imported all my data because I was so afraid something would go completely wrong. I didn’t though 😉
      Thank you! You too! :))

  1. Yeay for reading a classic and liking it. Classics can be so hard that way so it is always great when you find one that you actually like.

  2. Congratulations for reading a classic in your non-native language. I find some of the older classics hard to read and English is my first language. I’ve been trying to read books from the Great American Read. I think I will set it as a true goal for 2019. I like that there is a mix of classics, modern classics, and contemporary. See my October wrap up at Girl Who Reads

  3. I congratulate you on reading classics–they are difficult enough to read when English is your native language. Harry Potter books would also be on my longest book list as well as greatest villains. I read my first Kasie West book this summer and will definitely read more.

        1. Nice I didn’t know that one, I will check it out. I have thought of reading By Your Side and On The Fence.
