March Round-Up // BEspring19

It is already April how times flies! It is officially crazy! March has been a busy month for me school wise so there hasn’t been much time for book blogging (unfortunately). Nevertheless, I want to take a look at what March has brought of bookish stuff. Let’s do it! 😉

Books read this month

Confession time… I have only read two books this month… Yeah, I know what you are thinking(…) but to my defence, they are both classics and +500 pages! I read The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and Villette by Charlotte Brönte.

The Woman in White was probably my favourite of these two. Even though it was long (702 pages(!)) I enjoyed reading it. It is said that The Woman in White is the first sensational novel and the first novel with a “detective”. I liked the mystery and sensationalism. It made it easier to get through as you got a feeling of suspense. I also really liked the very different form of narration. The whole story is told through witness testimonies of different characters which were both fun but also quite frustrating at times as a lot of information is being withheld. I give four stars to The Woman in White.

Villette by Charlotte Brönte was also an interesting read in many ways. First of all, it was my first Brönte book and I was quite excited to see what it would bring. But after I have read it I must admit I feel a bit dubious. It wasn’t quite what I had hoped for. I had a bit of trouble getting through it. I hate to say it but it was at times boring. I think the reason lies within the narrator and protagonist Lucy Snow who is a special and distant narrator. It is hard to put into words what I think of this novel as I still need to process it but I think my rating is between 2 and 3.5 stars.

Currently reading

Currently, I am reading Dracula by Bram Stoker. Yup, another classic! When I am done with this Victorian course I have surpassed my classics reading goal by 500% haha! Anyway, I haven’t read that much of it but I am quite excited to see where this Victorian gothic novel is going! 😀

Posts on Bookish Stuff

As I said I haven’t had much time for blogging this month so only three posts appeared on my blog this month.
I did a post about the Versatile Blogger Award which I was nominated for by KayCKay. Thank you again for that! This was my first award ever and as a part of the post, I state seven random facts about myself.

I also wrote a review on North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. After reading it for the second time I finally wrote this review. I must say I really enjoyed this book and especially the second time around. If you enjoyed Pride and Prejudice but want more “substance” North and South is definitely something for you!

Lastly, I also got time for a Top Ten Tuesday post which also worked as my spring TBR. Check out the 10 books I hope to read this spring here!

What’s up for April?

So what’s up for April? One thing I know for sure is that I am taking part in the Bookending Spring 2019 Tidyathon. Bookending is a quarterly event created by Clo and Sam to bring the book blogging community closer together! Want to know more about this awesome event? Check out this post!
The Tidyathon isn’t actually a part of the BEspring but an extra event running alongside it (if I have got it right). Sadly, I don’t have time to take part in the actual event but I am definitely doing the tidyathon this spring. Here is the list of the things I hope to do:

– Get my Goodreads shelves in order (more precisely add some Goodreads shelves to sort my books)
– Sort out in my post categories on my blog
– Write and schedule three posts
– Four sessions of blog hopping (if that is something I can put on my list?)
– Do my laundry
– Write my qualifying essay for my Colonial post-Colonial course.
– Do my second obligatory assignment for my grammar class (anyone who is good at English grammar and syntactic trees? I could really use the help!)

This is my to-do list for this tidyathon. I will post updates on Twitter, so if you want to follow my progress make sure you follow me there as well. Here is a link to my profile 😉

In April I also hope to do some more reading! Besides Dracula, I also hope to read Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and if I am really good and productive I might have time to read a book there isn’t on my curriculum. ;D

I think that is all from me. I hope you have a fabulous April!

Best,

How was your March? What did you read what did you write? What are you doing of bookish stuff in April?

  1. I never realized that The Woman in White was so long! I’m glad you liked it though. Or kind of liked it? 😉 I loved Dracula when I read it for the first time last fall so I hope that one strikes your fancy.

  2. Your two classics for March are on my list, and I love Wuthering Heights so I’m hoping I’ll love this Bronte sister novel, and I absolutely LOVED Dracula, I hope you do enjoy it! Sounds like you’re going to be busy this April/Spring!

  3. Wooooo so happy to have you join in on the tidyathon, make sure when you share your updates to use the #Tidyathon so I (and possibly sam) can find your tweets. You can also use #BEspring19 too if you want, but it may get lost as the month goes on so try and use the Tidyathon hashtag.

Your list looks awesome and blog hopping totally counts, tidying those tabs down right 😉

  4. Good luck on your list for the rest of the month! Hope you knock out everything on there and that your schoolwork will lighten up soon! I wish I could help you out with grammar, but I’ve always struggled as well. 🙁
