Better late than never I guess. Here comes a round-up of my 2018 in books!
In 2018 I read 41 books. That is by far my personal best! In 2017 I read 17 books which are less than half. One should not care so much about numbers but I don’t think I have ever dreamed of reading that many books. I know a lot of people read far more (!!!) but I haven’t always loved reading so this is a bit of a victory for me 😀
My top 10 of 2018 (the books i rated ★★★★★)
As you can see, my top 10 consists of four contemporary YA novels and six fantasy YA novels. Not a big surprise really. These books were great! I really enjoyed reading them all even though some were more “painful” to get through than others. Here I am especially thinking of The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas and Asking For It by Louise O’Neill. You can read my reviews here and here respectively.
(A funny thing about these two reviews is that the review of THUG was actually the first review that appeared on my blog and the review of Asking For It is one of my lastest. There is some nice symmetry to that I think 😉 )
Favourite book covers
This is my top five of favourite book covers. My two favourites are Emergency Contact by Mary Choi and The Wicked Deep by Shea
What content appeared on Bookish Stuff i 2018
2018 was the year I started book blogging. It has now been nine months very soon 10. I am so happy that I finally took the jump and made my own blog. I was totally taken aback how big this community is – it is so great!
I have also discovered the challenges that follow book blogging. For me, the greatest has been time. Simply to make and take time for reading and writing.
But regardless of that, I have still made some content. In total, I have published 45 posts! Distributed on 17 reviews, 10 TTTs, 8 round-ups, 1 discussion and 8 others.
I am most “proud” of my one and only discussion post My love/hate relationship with the Divergent Series and my review of Asking For It and my review of Wintersong by Jae-Jones. I know it may be weird/rude to be proud of a negative review but it was my first and it took some courage to write.
What’s up for 2019?
So, what is up for 2019 is probably the question to ask now. A lot of reading I am sure! At the beginning of January, I moved to Norway, Oslo. This semester I will study English literature at the University of Oslo. I am quite excited about it. I will take three courses: English Grammar, The Victorian Period and Colonial and postcolonial literature. So I am sure I will have a lot to do or should I say read?
On top of that, I will also do rhythmic gymnastics for a min of 25 hours a week (which is actually the main reason for moving to Norway.) This will likely mean that I have less “spare time” and probably less time for my blog. My goal is to post once a week. I really really hope that I can manage and I would be so happy if I succeeded. But let’s see. I will most defiantly try to be more active on the sideline and follow your bookish people’s life.
At the moment I have banned all pleasure/fun reading. I have done this to focus solely on my study. But as I get used to the workload I will fill in more reading of my own choice. I mean I have to! The Wicked King is waiting for me in the bookstore! But I know if I buy it now I will not be able to think on anything else and then read the whole thing immediately and not get any work done… hahaha I have no self-control. But don’t be too surprised if there appears a review of a book from the
Other goals for 2019 is to read 30 books, therein 4 classics and 2 books from Danish authors. (I really need to be more supportive of authors from Denmark…) Otherwise, I have no restrictions 😉
I really hope you had a wonderful 2018 both privately and bookish wise and that your 2019 will be just as good if not better! 😀
congrats on your personal best! The Hate U Give and The Cruel Prince were among my top 2018 reads too 😊 negative reviews are just as important as positive ones, so I applaud you for having the courage to post it! sounds like your 2019 will be busy, so best of luck with all your goals 🍀
Thank you! Nice, they were so great! Have you read The Wicked King yet? If you plan on it? Thank you so much! :))
What a neat way to do a year end wrap up – I really like that! Very clever. I have not read any of your favorites for the year, so I will have to check some of those out. The Hate You Give was on my list, but I never got to it.
I am an expat too! We moved from America to Basel, Switzerland 18 months ago, and it has been wonderful. But it a big adjustment and you sound like a very busy person. I think 30 books is a commendable goal! Good luck with everything. I hear Oslo is beautiful.
Thank you so much! If you have time you should definitely consider THUG.
Oh, that is so cool! I imagine there is a big difference between America and Switzerland. Denmark and Norway are quite similar, though Norwegians are crazy about skiing hahah. Yes Oslo is very beautiful especially here in winter with all the snow :))
Looking at my year in books is one of my favorite things about the new year! So interesting and fun!
Yeah me too! I always feel quite motivated afterwards ☺️
